Crime at the Castle | Irish Crime Writers Join Forces for Talent Development Day

Friday, 24 May 2019
Crime writers from the North-West of Ireland to facilitate workshops and panel discussion in Donegal, Inishowen.
Crime at The Castle will take place in Redcastle Oceanfront Golf and Spa on August 25th starting at 10am.

This is an opportunity for new and emerging writers to meet published crime writers, to take part in practical writing workshops and to hear writers discuss the demands of building a successful writing career.

"Usually events like this are held in Dublin, Belfast, I wish to bring experiences like this to Inishowen and to Moville and Redcastle in particular. Inishowen and the North of Ireland has a wealth of female writers. I am delighted to say that at least five of these acclaimed authors are coming to Redcastle on August 25th to share their insights into building a writing career.

‘Emerging writers in all genres and stages are welcome. Come, meet and chat to writers such as Andrea Carter, Claire Allan, Sharon Dempsey and Kelly Creighton. We hope this is a first of many literary events in Inishowen." Sharon Thompson, organiser and founder of tells us.

The programme of the day is designed to provide for one-to-one discussions and practical experiences.

‘The Killer Premise’ kicks off 10am. This workshop will lead you through the demands of the crime writing genre, explore what sells and how to develop an idea into a book. You will have an opportunity to explore premise and hook, characterisation, plot, pace and mystery.

Lunch is included in the €80 price and will provide an opportunity to chat with the featured authors and attendees.

The afternoon session will be a chaired panel discussion with a further chance to delve into discussions on how to pitch your novel to publishers, and how to sustain your writing career. Redcastle Oceanfront Golf and Spa also have a special accommodation package for those wishing to attend Crime at the Castle. For further information please contact

Sharon Dempsey adds, "This is a brilliant opportunity for new and emerging writers to learn about the craft and business of writing. We are excited to be able to reach new writers who maybe don’t get the opportunities to attend events like this. The workshops, networking opportunities and panel discussions will inspire delegates. We hope it will be a day of talent development."
