Stay and Spend Scheme
Though many holiday and travel plans for 2020 have been interrupted , staycations in Ireland are on the horizon as the Irish Government launch the Stay and Spend Scheme
. The new scheme is available from 1st October 2020 to 30th April 2021 and may be used against expenditure on either holiday accommodation and ’eat in’ food and non-alcoholic drink consumed with food.
The staycation scheme is aimed at taxpayers in Ireland who have been unable to holiday this year, and the credit can be claimed as an income tax credit, which will allow staycationers in Ireland to enjoy a well-deserved getaway at a much more affordable price.
The Stay and Spend Scheme will allow taxpayers to claim back 20% of their food and accommodation spend as tax credit, up to a maximum of €125 per person or €250 per jointly-assessed married couple. Transactions must be of at least €25 to qualify.
To receive the Stay and Spend Tax Credit just make a claim when completing your annual tax return. You will be asked to submit a copy of a receipt of your expenditure, which you can easily do using the new Revenue Receipts Tracker App or through the Receipts Tracker service within the Government’s Revenue website.
