Why a Staycation in Inishowen is the Perfect Plan this Summer

Wednesday, 24 June 2020
Only three months ago, coronavirus was something unheard of. Soon after, it forced all Irish citizens (and everyone around the world, for that matter) to lock themselves in their homes to prevent its development. And so we did. We stayed home and closed shops, bars, hotels – Redcastle Hotel included - for everyone’s safety. Luckily, it seems that the worst is over now and Covid-19 is giving us a break this summer so that we can enjoy a well-deserved and long-awaited holiday.

Holiday in Times of Covid

Coronavirus has undeniably become something very present in our lives and has changed everything, from how we relate with each other to how we dress - who would have thought that masks would be chic in 2020? And of course, we will also see its influence this summer in the way people plan their holidays.

The government and health experts are encouraging citizens to travel; however, their advise is to stay local. Luckily, we are privileged to live in a country full of beauty where we don't need to go far to find fascinating corners! Why not take advantage of it and (re) discover the wonderful landscapes of Inishowen this summer?

Donegal offers a myriad of breath-taking views and interesting attractions to its visitors. Located in the Inishowen Peninsula and surrounded by spectacular scenery, The Redcastle Hotel is just the perfect destination for a dreamy staycation this summer.

On the one side, Lough Foyle, providing panoramic views all across the Restaurant and Deck area. On the other, an unrivalled natural parkland, including our private 9 hole golf course. A no-brainer for golf fans or simply for those looking to disconnect close to nature. There are several hike options near the hotel, being one of the most popular and highest rated on Tripadvisor The Moville Shore pathway.

Also in Moville, local company Inish Adventures offer a range of water activities for all ages, such as kayaking and paddling, including their latest addition a brand new Adventure Waterpark. Culdaff based Inishowen Boating runs boat trips, focused on sightseeing and dolphin spotting. Glenevin Waterfall Park is a must-see attraction, located in Clonmany, a short 30 min drive from the hotel. A great day out with friends or family!

If you come from Northern Ireland, don’t miss the opportunity to catch the Scenic Foyle Ferry, which sails from Macgilligan Point to Greencastle, just 10 minutes from the hotel. The ferry connects the Wild Atlantic Way in Donegal with the Causeway Coastal Route and will resume its services on 20th July 2020.

Ireland is indeed famous for its green landscapes, but it has much more to offer. If you are looking for a foodie break this summer, The Edge Restaurant is where is at. Quality food combined with a strong wine list, professional yet warm service and that location on the water’s edge, The Edge is a superb dining experience from start to finish. Not many other restaurants in Donegal can boast such a unique gourmet experience; The Edge Restaurant is indeed the only restaurant in Inishowen with two AA Rosettes.

The Redcastle Hotel offers the perfect combination for those looking for a relaxing staycation close to nature and those who prefer a cultural escape or a shopping break – and it is the perfect solution for couples who cannot agree and want it all! Let's not forget that the hotel is near Derry, only 20 minutes away, and that the city offers a large number of shops, leisure options and so many historical places worth seeing too.

A New Way

Choosing the destination will not be difficult, but some will still deal with hesitation. We don’t blame them, 2020 has not been an easy year. The top priority for most travellers is now that they are offered free cancellations. At the Redcastle Hotel we fully understand this, that is why all our new rates are flexible and have no booking fees.

In addition, we have created a programme of measures that we have named ‘A New Clean', in line with the government and Failte Ireland’s guidelines, in order to offer guests assurance and peace of mind when they stay at The Redcastle Hotel. The new programme will focus on cleanliness that will be visible to guests throughout their entire stay – in their guest rooms, restaurants, gym, spa and in other public spaces.

This 2020 will undoubtedly be remembered for the coronavirus outbreak. But why not remember it also because you enjoyed the best summer of your life? Let yourself be surprised by Inishowen!
