Top 5 walks to explore in the Inishowen area:

1. Moville Shore Path (Slí na Slainte)

A lovely, easy coastal walk running from Moville along the Lough Foyle shoreline towards Greencastle. It follows a clearly defined path with sea views, gentle terrain and places to rest — perfect for those who prefer relaxed walking with fresh air and estuary vistas.

2. Inishowen Head Loop

A scenic loop offering coastal and countryside views just outside Moville/Greencastle. About 8–9 km in length and typically taking 2–3 hours, this route includes seaside landscapes, rolling countryside and lovely vantage points over the Wild Atlantic coastline.

3. Malin Head

Ireland’s most northerly point offers some of the most dramatic coastal walking in the country. Well-marked paths and short looped walks lead along rugged cliffs with panoramic views across the Atlantic, the Inishowen coastline and, on clear days, Scotland. Highlights include Banba’s Crown, the iconic signal tower and blowhole views. While exposed in places, routes can be tailored to short, manageable walks, making it ideal for soaking up wild scenery without committing to long distances.

4. Buncrana to Stragill Strand Coastal Walk

A beautiful coastal stroll along Lough Swilly from Buncrana. Approximately 5–6km with easy footing and plenty of sea views, it’s suitable for a steady pace and offers a chance to enjoy expansive waterside scenery.

5. Fort Dunree

Set on a hillside overlooking Lough Swilly, Fort Dunree combines gentle walking with rich military history and outstanding views. A network of paved roads and paths winds through the former fort, passing old gun batteries, tunnels and lookout points. Walks can be as short or as long as you like, with benches and viewpoints along the way, and the maritime scenery is especially striking on calm days. It’s a great option for relaxed exploration with a strong sense of place.
